New Year New Dress – Featuring AX Paris.

Hi all!

Today I want to show you the beautiful dress that I wore for New Years eve. It came from AX Paris for Simply Be and I just loved wearing it. I bought the dress during the black friday sales for the exact purpose of wearing it for New Years Eve even though I didn’t have proper plans then. In the end I ended up going to a friend of Adam’s for a few hours then me, Adam and Eleanor went over to my mums house together as she was having a family party and it meant we didn’t need to find a babysitter and could all be together. As with every family party, we didn’t see Eleanor for most of the night as she was with various family members and then she went down to bed around 10 and slept until morning. She’s done this practically every night now since before Christmas – such a good baby! This left me and Adam to party with my family. Adam tapped out early but me and my best friend Chloe were going until 7am!

The dress is incredibly similar to the dress that I wore last new year (also AX Paris). I Loved the cut of the last dress on the neckline as it was flattering on a larger bust and so I was glad to see another dress in a similar style. The dress might be a similar style but it’s quite out there for me in regards to colour/style as I don’t wear much lace and the navy/nude layering was new to me but I quite liked trying something a bit different. The dress is quite fitted and short and so I was a little nervous about wearing it so close to just having a baby but I’ve been working hard in the swimming pool and so the dress fit me well. I sized up as on the website there was reviews saying that the arms were small. I didn’t find the arms to be particularly small but then again I’d sized up. I generally size up when I wear AX Paris as I generally find them a small fitting – particularly around the bust and arms. I wore a pair of flat shoes with this as I knew I’d have Eleanor and didn’t want to be wobbling around all over. The shoes are actually navy loafers I’ve had for forever from Dorothy Perkins which always seem to “come in handy” when I least expect it.

##

I went for classic makeup, with a girly pink lip. I tend to stick to reds but this dress called for light coral cheeks, smooth skin and a simple slick of eyeliner.

This photo was taken at 7am – my makeup stayed on well for over 14 hours (apart from the lipstick) and my new hair stayed MOSTLY in place which was a miracle considering how much dancing about we were doing. There was even a time warp. My dress stayed beautiful and comfortable all night long – so a successful choice! I always love AX Paris for Simply Be dresses as they’re amazing quality, affordable and fit my body very well.

Most importantly, I got to spent new years with my best friends and my family. Here’s some snaps of me and Chloe and me and Adam. I didn’t get a picture of me and my mum but it was the first time I’d spent new years with her in a long time and I absolutely loved it. I definitely felt tired for a few days after but it was so worth it for having such a fantastic night. Last year I made the resolution to get my body in a better state and to have a baby which I achieved (pretty quickly too), and this year I made the resolution to get fitter so I can run around after Eleanor and so I will be able to take her out to do all the activities she wants to when she’s older and I’m well on my way with that. I’ve been hitting the swimming and keeping up with Aqua Zumba which I started last year which I really enjoy.

So who knows what my resolution will be next year. I keep going on with determination and feel like I can achieve so much. Previously I didn’t feel like I could achieve anything and hid behind my own excuses – but Eleanor gives me the strength and incentive to try.

Eleanor Free Edinburgh Part 2 ! Featuring MORE Lindy Bop.

Hi all!

Here’s the second half from my trip!

After going to bed on a full tummy and having a good relax, we decided to go down early for breakfast as we wanted to get some pool time in before we went out for the day. Breakfast was pretty good with a huge continental selection including pastries, cereals, meats, cheeses, salmon, fruit salad and tons more. There was also a hot buffet option serving a full scottish breakfast (including haggis and potato cakes) with the option to order eggs and egg dishes such as omelettes, eggs benedict and even pancakes. We both ordered pancakes and had pancakes, syrup and bacon which was lush. We went for our swim after breakfast and then back to the room to get ready for the day.

I decided to wear my new skirt from Lindy Bop.  It’s the first time I’ve bought anything that wasn’t a dress from them and so I wasn’t sure how the fit would be. The skirt is small sizing and on the long size for my body but it still fit. I wore it with my ASOS Curve origami collar, my Collectif cardigan, soft pink suede loafers and my Banned Apparel flamingo bag. We drove from the hotel to a large parking lot which offered a good deal on 24 hour parking. We’d been stung with a parking ticket thanks to bad directions of where to park by the hotel and decided to move. From the car park we got on the bus to the main strip – it only took us five minutes and was super easy. We got off the bus outside the Doc Marten shop which is exactly where I wanted to go.

My mum had given me some Christmas money and told me to put it towards a pair of Doc Martens which I happily did after deciding on a pair. I went for a pair of t-bar shiny shoes which I can wear with cute socks.

Although I was shopping for myself, I couldn’t resist when I saw baby doc’s in the sale. We then decided to get a pair for Eleanor and decided on a pair of velvet boots with patent leather toes – I can’t wait for her to be able to fit into them.

Next up we went for a walk around the streets having a look around and taking in the sights. We were overwhelmed by how beautiful The Dome is and just had to go inside for drinks.

I was mesmerised by the chandelier in the bar.

Our drinks!

We left The Dome and had another good walk around and checked out another Christmas Market where we bought a ridiculous amount of flavoured fudge. By this time we were peckish but didn’t want a huge “proper” meal. We popped into a noodle bar for a bite to eat and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. For £3.50, you got two toppings and a box full of noodles.

12571359_1544483385866124_490919324_n

I can’t remember what toppings I got, but they were really delicious. Princes Street Mall had a whole food court and honestly we were spoilt for choice. They had like mcdonalds, burger king, KFC, Subway, Greggs, Sushi, Pizza – the list goes on. I’m so glad we went for the noodles as like I said, they were super tasty.

12606936_1544483359199460_355254500_n

Walking out of Princes Street Mall we came to to Waverley Bridge which was full of open top tour busses. We had said we fancied going on one and climbed aboard. The tickets were £14 each which included unlimited travel on that bus which I thought was a bit steep although the tour was good. I was in love with the streetlamps with crowns on top outside the palace. After a long time on our bus tour we arrived back at Edinburgh Waverley Bridge and decided to pop into the markets. It was getting cold by this point and so we warmed ourselves with a hot gin toddy and a hot pimms toddy. We bought chocolate covered almonds which tasted like the white ferrero rochers and adam got caramelised cashews which he always gets from Christmas markets and absolutely loves.  We had a wander round but it seemed to be the same things on most stalls so we didn’t spend a ton of time in there. By this time of night (about 6ish) it was getting super busy and it was hard to walk up the streets so we jumped on a bus back to where the car was parked as it was on a complex with lots of restaurants called the Omni Centre. Adam wanted to go to a place called Tony Macaroni so we went and it was okay. We had raspberry and mango daiquiri’s with our meal which made it better but I bit into something hard in my burger which really hurt my tooth – the manager kindly comped my whole meal which was kind of him but I was still left a bit sore. Adam had a hotdog and enjoyed it so at least he was happy! We decided to leave the car at the omni centre as it was cheaper than moving it to the hotel and we didn’t want to risk another fine. After popping to tesco for drinks and snacks, we returned to the room where we relaxed for half an hour before heading for another swim. The pool was open pretty late and we were the only people in there so we stayed in there for quite a while just chatting. We headed back to the room and packed up ready for the morning and had an early-ish night watching TV on my laptop.

The next morning was beautiful and it was sad to leave. From our room you could see all the way to the water and it was stunning.

10343683_1534836530164143_2162511826905055339_n

I soon got dressed in my lovely new Grace dress from Lindy Bop (which is big in sizing) and added a plain green cardigan from eBay.

 1936467_1534838160163980_7707393470202647708_n

Me and my love on our way to breakfast.

Breakfast was exactly the same as the day before so we mixed it up ordering different bits from the menu.

We departed not long after breakfast as we wanted to get back for Eleanor. As much as we loved our time alone, it just felt a little weird not seeing her little face for three days and I missed her very much.

We loved Edinburgh again this time but IF we end up doing another post Christmas trip I think we’ll try somewhere different and probably take little bear with us!

It was the best of times…..FEATURING Style XL

Hi all!

So recently I had the pleasure of attending the wonderful event which was Style XL!

Me and Adam drove down for the event the night before which was held in Birmingham at The Paragon Hotel. Knowing we were heading for a long journey I dressed casually in one of my ebay swing cami’s which I’ve been loving for my growing bump, leggings and flats. Oh and course the sunglasses made a trip out as the weather was beautiful!

IMG_8637

Adam wore one of his new shirts from Who? clothing which he got for his birthday…

IMG_8639

…Sadly this didn’t stay white very long and ended up with me scrubbing it with a baby wipe in a random lay-by on route to the hotel. We decided to head out for dinner, and I wore my Polly Grace Clara dress which I couldn’t get a decent photo of due to my room being tiny and without a light, but I’ve previously reviewed here. This dress has been a staple piece of mine during my pregnancy and has been worn time and time again and is still perfect. We had an “interesting” dinner ending in us leaving the restaurant and getting a takeaway instead and taking it back to our room. Later on we met up with some other bloggers in the bar and hung out until the wee hours!

The next day was the first day of Style XL and knowing it was going to be a long day with clothing changes, I went for this deep orange/red jersey midi dress from ASOS Curve

IMG_8642

I love this dress because it is super comfortable but can be dressed up/down as i need to.

IMG_8641

Me and adam enjoyed taking selfies at the bon prix stand!

IMG_8645

Adam was very sad that he didn’t win the coat – he looked rad!

11745492_886853398058103_7892758262324927191_n

Even though I have crippling SPD, I managed to get up on stage and model for Monroe Knows (who are currently having a huge sale). I DID smile I promise. After a good few hours enjoying the event, I went back to my room and got changed for an early dinner before the evening event started.

IMG_8618

As before, I didn’t manage to get a decent full length photo in the hotel, and so here’s one of me from home! I did however ditch the leggings.

IMG_8622

I chose this dress because I knew it would be comfortable on my expanding bump but still look elegant and not like a generic maternity tent. It’s currently on sale here.

IMG_8648

A snap of me and Adam at the evening event!

We caught the end of Model XL and were super happy to see Sarah from Plus Size & Proud who picked up an  award for both Model XL Personality AND Model XL Charity!

After Model XL there was time for a buffet, dancing and socialising which I really enjoyed. It was a great night of women championing each other and empowering each other. I’m so used to going on nights out and being picked apart for my looks that it was so refreshing to go somewhere and actually be boosted by other people who all want to have a good time.

These events are so important to me and to others because for many of us – more so those of us who live far away from most other bloggers – this is one of the rare opportunities we actually get to spend time with other like minded people and feel like we ACTUALLY fit in to a community, because that is what we are. We, as bloggers are a community and this has built from us writing online and putting ourselves out there. This is why I am SO thankful to people like Leah who take the time out to put on these much needed and much loved events.

I went to bed that night with a newly charged feeling of self worth. I’ve been down lately and feeling frumpy/unattractive due to my body changing in pregnancy – however being around these fantastic people reminded me that there’s not a single thing wrong with my body and suddenly everything seemed a little brighter.

I didn’t manage to attend any of the workshops on Sunday as due to issues with the hotel we just wanted to leave, however I’m informed people had another excellent day.

Once again, thank you so much to Leah, her family and all those who volunteered and helped out for a fabulous day. I can’t wait for the next one!

My baby shower! Featuring Simply Be Lace Detail Swing Dress

Hi all!

A few weeks back, I had my baby shower/gender reveal party for my baba and it was a wonderful day. It was held a lot earlier than a typical shower, however my best friend/babies godmum was heading off to go travelling around Europe for a couple of months and so I really didn’t want to not have her there! A huge thank you has to be said to my mum for organizing such a lovely day and for getting everybody together.

It took me ages to decide what to wear, and I actually went back onto my blog for inspiration and found a previous post where I had visited Simply Be to review some clothes and spied a dress which I knew would be perfect.

IMG_6910

I put a tweet out attaching the above picture and asking for peoples opinions of the dress for a shower, and Simply Be kindly contacted me and gifted me the dress for my shower which was so kind of them!

I decided to ditch the coat this time and glam up the makeup a little bit more and really loved how the dress looked. I sized up to a 26 to accommodate my bump and felt a million dollars!

IMG_8432

IMG_8431

I added a black wig which looks like my usual hair (before I chopped it off for charity!), my usual flamingo handbag, little white shiny flats and a simple flower crown and I was ready to go!

The shower was held in a local pub important to my family – we have pretty much every event there so of course my shower would be there!

And she’s a girl! We also revealed her name – Eleanor Bridie Lister.

My mum threw a few games in such as pin the dummy on the baby, guess the weight and people decorated little onesies! Here’s my best friend Chloe hard at work!

Eleanor was well and truly spoiled! Thank you so much to those who bought us gifts and those who came from far and wide to be there – I’m looking at you Miki & Chloe!!

   IMG_8443

Also super thanks for lip stain and MUA liquid eyeliner for staying in place even though I cried a LOT.

IMG_8461

My final thanks goes to these two beautiful ladies for doing me the honour of agreeing to be Eleanor’s Godmothers alongside Adam’s sister Sara. We’re very lucky that Eleanor will have such incredible, strong and wonderful women to look up to and to guide her through her life.

FINALLY.

I’m up for the award of Best New Blog at the British Plus Size Awards and would love it if you could click here and vote for Fabulously Fat Fashion! It means the world to be nominated and to win would just be excellent!

Thanks!

Plus size & Pregnant – Minimal spending on maternity wear.

Hi all!

I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant now (I know, It seems like I’ve been pregnant for absolutely forever now, and I’m still only just over halfway there! With being plus size, I’ve faced a ton of difficulties in my pregnancy such as patronizing midwives, pushy doctors and dietitian’s…who aren’t very slim themselves. I’ve changed my eating habits quite dramatically for this baby, cutting out sugary drinks and bars of chocolate and limiting the amount of juice and crisps I consume. I’ve also been making the effort to actually eat breakfast which is a meal I’ve generally skipped for a number of years. With all these new changes I’ve barely gained any weight and had only really gained a smallish bump which had made clothes buying/wearing tons easier.

This is all changing now as the baby starts to grow more rapidly and I find myself looking for cool clothes for the summer. Here’s my list of my summer saviors which have been essential for me keeping cool and calm in this heat.

1 – Longline Cami’s

IMG_7592

I bought these cami tops from ebay for around £6/7 and they have been a great purchase as Ive gotten loads of wear out of them with various skirts/jeans/leggings combinations. The top dips in and out which still shows I have a a figure but still skims gently over my bump. There’s plenty of room for my bump to grow and these will be still great and comfy to wear once the baby has arrived.

2 – Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are so easy/cheap to pick up these days, with most supermarkets even having a good range which often go’s up to a size 22/24!

IMG_7878

I’ve been practically living in this one from Polly Grace which is the Clara dress. It’s so comfortable and easy to wear and hides a multitude of sins. It’s currently on sale, and if you use the code hannah20 you can get another 20% off anything on the site – including pieces in the sale!

3 – Swing dresses.

Swing dresses have been another excellent/cheap purchase. I’ve picked up a few from ASOS (which is constantly having good sales) in a size up to accommodate for maternity to be comfortable, I’ve managed to get some from other bloggers having sales and I already had a few. The shape is excellent because it still stays fitted at the top, but the swing style allows for the tummy to grow without feeling tight and restricted.

4 – Sandals.

I’ve never been a heel wearer anyway,  always choosing to wear dolly shoes instead of more “proper” shoes. I definitely couldn’t imagine tottering around in this heat in heels and so sandals are the way to go! I got some Birkenstock style sandals from Primark for a few pounds (rather than £40-£50) and they are glorious on my feet. They are nice and wide with ridges that cup your feet gently. The suede bottoms also help as you don’t start slipping around on your own sandals which is great.

I’ve managed to get quite a lot of bits to see me through my pregnancy and kept myself on a budget. Ebay, depop and blog sales have been my best friends – not everything has to be new considering it’s only going to be worn for a few months! This way I’ve had more money to spend on the baby.

Hannah x

P.S,

I have been nominated for the award of “Best New Blog” at the British Plus Size Awards. You can vote for me here by selecting “Fabulously Fat Fashion” and then vote!   Thank you!
